Living in the present moment, being present and then giving presence is tough shit. We are bombarded from every angle to think we need x, y, or z- to live in the future because things will be “better” or dwell in the past because someone dicked us over and my current issues are all “their” fault.
Being present, however, might be all that life is about. When we move towards savasana in our asana practice, we move towards a very startling symbol- we are all headed to a very literal savasana eventually- to corpse pose. The hardest part to accept is that we have no choice as to when and how we make our way to our final savasana. It is moment by moment, day by day that we can be certain of. It is only breath by breath that we know is available to us. Tomorrow may only be a figment in our imagination…
Whew- deep shit y’all! Now, we can’t live our lives only living for the now. We’d crap our pants and not have an extra set to change into (well, that was a really strange analogy, but you know what I’m saying). It would make it nearly impossible to function to only “live in the moment”. What we can do is plan for the future, learn from the past and satiate the moment, savor it, enjoy it and not fast forward our lives to miss out on the good stuff.
Ok cool, how do we do that?
1. Plan (preferably write down) a vision for the life you want to lead
2. Set goals around that vision (write those down too)
3. Do not become too attached to that vision, things will change and morph
4. Embrace what the universe delivers to you as you work towards those goals
Check out the blog over the next few weeks for some interviews with current members of Practice Indie and NapTown SWIFT that have used vision setting, goal setting and living in the moment to embrace lives that they truly love! It is possible. You deserve it. You simply have to start working towards it… and being present :).
